Real Madrid finalise Modric move
Tottenahm have confirmed that Luka Modric will be heading to Real Madrid after agreeing to a transfer fee on Sunday night.
Croatian midfielder Modric is heading to the Spanish capital to undergo a medical on Monday as the final move in a protracted transfer saga that has dragged on throughout the summer.
The deal has been reported to be worth 27 million British pounds, although Tottenham did not disclose the figure in a statement on the club website on Monday morning.
“The strong relationship and affinity between our two clubs has resulted in the cementing of a longer-term partnership and the successful transfer of Luka Modric,” declared Real Madrid President Florentino Perez Rodriguez in the statement.
“We are delighted to welcome Luka and look forward to working closely with Tottenham in the coming years.”
Spurs chaiman Daniel Levy said: “Luka has been a terrific player for us and, whilst we preferred not to part with him, we are pleased that it is to Real Madrid, a club with which we now look forward to sharing a long and productive partnership.”
Modric made 160 appearances for Tottenham, scoring 17 goals after joining from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2008.
